Traumatic brain Injury Research Advances with $18.8M NIH Award

The great number of veterans returning home from Afghanistan with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) as well as athletes who incur one have shown the spotlight on TBI.  But the fact is more people incur a TBI from automobile accidents than either from combat or as a result of a sports related injury.  The National Institute of Health (NIH) is awarding $18.8 million dollars over five years to support worldwde research on concussion and traumatic brain injury.  This award is part of one of the largest international research collaborations ever coordinated by funding agencies.  The grant will be administered through the University of California at San Francisco.  To see how the study will be structured and the new approach which will be used to lead to patient-specific treatments go to:
