The Critical Question-Why Don’t Mentally I’ll People Take Their Meds?

While it is not all that uncommon for people with any malady to stray from the “take your medicine” regimen it is even more prevalent for the mentally ill.  When my husband was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and bipolar disorder our son and I experienced this up close and sadly personal.  I asked my husband this critical question over and over again in a quest to understand why someone so intelligent refused consistently to take his medicine.

The answer to this question for the mentally ill is not simple but in fact is quite complex as it involves a number of factors.  It also has a startling and staggering cost attached in monetary terms.
