May Is Mental Health Month

The fact that May is National Mental Health Month provides a perfect opportunity to take a look at the status of current funding levels for care of the mentally ill state by state.  Doing so paints a clear picture regarding support for mental health in our country.  I knew funding was well below what it needed to be but I was appalled when I discovered just what that meant as presented in the current issue of Mother Jones magazine.

If I were a state legislator I would do two things immediately:  I would hang my head in shame and ask myself why I allowed this to happen and then quickly ask how I could mount a campaign to change this situation as fast as possible.  Take a look at the sobering facts by clicking here.
