Joseph Campbell

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.

I selected this quote for the book because there were so many years when my life was completely shattered over my husband’s disappearance behind the wall of mental illness that I allowed fear to keep me from doing the difficult work of looking-really looking- the heartbreak and the underlying reasons for it in the face in order to dispel it.  Only when the pain became greater than the fear did I stop running, turn and move carefully but steadily into the fear to find the lasting peace.  Thus I stepped into the cave of fear to find the treasure of peace.
